Mayor Eschbach named to Lincoln commission
Tuesday, October 03, 2006
Ottawa mayor and IVCC alumnus Robert Eschbach has been named to the Abraham Lincoln Bicentennial Commission.
As mayor of the city where the first Lincoln-Douglas debate was held in 1858, Eschbach will serve as an advisor to the Commission, the mission of which is to plan a national celebration of Lincoln's 200th birthday in 2009.
The idea of inviting mayors to serve on the commission was Sen. Richard Durbin's, D-Ill. As part of his commission duties, Eschbach will attend a one-day meeting in February in Washington, D.C.
Eschbach, an Ottawa attorney, was a debate champion at IVCC in the early 1970s.
