Nursing graduate authors end-of-life book
Tuesday, September 12, 2006
IVCC nursing graduate Laura Delhotel Neuhalfen is the author of A Hospice Nurse Finds the Many Faces of God, an account of her experiences working with patients and families dealing with death.
A native of Seatonville who attended IVCC in the 1990s (receiving an AAS degree in 1999), Neuhalfen now cares for the dying in a private practice and through her not-for-profit hospice care facility, The Center for New Beginnings II, in rural Florida.
The book is based on Neuhalfen's work with nine patients she worked with through death. She recounts the life lessons she learned from each patient. For example, the grieving of a Hindu family "touched my soul and taught me the beauty of not holding back emotionally from our losses," she said.
Information for this story was excerpted from a column in the Times of Ottawa written by Spring Valley's Julia M. Messina.
