Balconi wins second golf crown

Former Illinois Valley Community College basketball standout Carol Balconi won the 48th Annual Illinois Valley Women’s Golf Open Sunday, August 13 at Deer Park Country Club.
Balconi, a member of the 1991-92 IVCC Lady Apaches basketball team that finished 25-7 and placed fifth at the National Junior College Athletic Association Division III championships in Troy, N.Y., won her second Illinois Valley women’s golf title in three years by shooting a 74. She had a five shot lead after just seven holes.
Balconi is a golf pro at Edgewood Golf Course near McNabb and at Senica's Oak Ridge east of La Salle.
Another IVCC alum and two-time champion Penny Derick, finished fourth. Debbie Sweeden, a member of IVCC Board of Trustees, finished second in C Class.
