Illinois Valley Community College will celebrate “Clay Zavada Night” at the 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 5, men’s basketball season opener vs. St. Ambrose JV.

            Zavada, a Streator resident and former IVCC ace, is a relief pitcher for Major League Baseball’s Arizona Diamondbacks. With a signature handlebar mustache, Zavada has become a Diamondbacks’ fan favorite.

            Zavada attended IVCC from fall 2002 to summer 2005 and played two seasons for coach Bob Koopman. IVCC Athletic Director and men’s basketball coach Tommy Canale said Zavada’s IVCC jersey will be retired at the ceremony. Zavada is scheduled to attend.
